The UAlbany Athletic Program including coaches and student-athletes is raising awareness for their mascot namesake and hoping their supporters make donations whether food, money, or any way they can.

UAlbany head football coach Greg Gattuso owns two Great Danes, Blitz and Bruno. Blitz is the live mascot for the football team.

Coach Gattuso said,

It was heartbreaking to see this in the news. Great Danes are such amazing animals. I urge our entire fan base to help these local organizations in any way possible so these dogs can get the proper care they deserve.

UAlbany Athletics Director Mark Benson told CBS 6 that the community supports the UA coaches and student-athletes who are leaders on and off the field. He is also asking fellow UA Great Danes to help these Great Danes in their recovery. Benson says it's a cause that "touches all of our hearts".
