Kansas Singer Says That Performing Has Always Been In His Blood
When it comes to iconic rock bands Kansas is certainly on that list. With hit songs like "Dust in the Wind", "Carry On Wayward Son", and "Point of No Return" they have cemented themselves into rock history. While many original members have retired, others have picked up their legacy to, well, carry on. Ronnie Platt is one of those guys who stepped in to make sure that we get to keep experiencing these rock songs for a long time.

Ronnie Platt has been singing with Kansas since Steve Walsh retired in 2014. Platt started in other rock bands before messaging Kansas to see if they'd be willing to give him a shot, and the rest is history. I asked Platt if after a decade of singing with the band he still has the oh wow moment of he's really singing with Kansas and he said "after all this time he still has these surreal moments." He went on to talk about how he's in a very exclusive group of current singers that have taken over for icons. He mentioned Arnel Pineda who is with Journey, Kelly Hanson who recently retired after taking over lead singer in Foreigner, and the late Tommy DeCarlo who sang lead for Boston after the death of Brad Delp. He doesn't take any of that for granted.

When it comes down to performing for the fans Platt said that it's a no brainer on what song he loves to perform night after night. That would be "Carry On Wayward Son." He said he gets to see the crowd and everyone is 20-years-old again rocking to the Kansas classic.

Platt is as humble as it gets and has not forgotten that he is living his ultimate dream and he's able to share that with us. He talked about how seeing multiple generations of rock fans at these shows always amazes him. To see kids there with parents and even grand parents. He said that's why he's stopped calling it classic rock and instead refers to it as timeless rock. I think he's got a great point.
Kansas will be playing the Empire State Plaza on June 24th. It's a free show in Albany and we would love to share in some of these timeless songs with all of you.
