I took my teenage daughter to the DMV to get her driver's permit about a month ago. We got to the DMV right at 7:30 am and it was packed. There was a huge line outside and it was slow to move mostly because every single person had to have their temperature checked before they were allowed inside. On top of that, the number of people that could be inside at once was limited too.

I'm not complaining, that's just what I experienced. Once we got to the counter the woman was incredibly nice and made my daughter feel right at ease before taking her permit test. She passed, by the way, and only missed one.....I'm such a proud Dad.

Well, now the New York DMV is trying out more services offered online including permit testing and even vehicle registration. It's nice to see the DMV jump right into the world of online services.

So here's what's coming online from the DMV to a computer near you. Drivers Permit and Motorcycle Permit tests will be available online. In addition, vehicle registrations in Westchester, Rockland, Albany, and Onondaga counties, plus New York City and Long Island will be offered online as part of the DMV's pilot test program. If everything goes well it will be expanded throughout the state.

According to News10 the state will work with the other 51 county-run DMV locations to expand online registrations once they are sure the new program is working well in the state-run DMV offices.
