New York has broken a new record for breweries once set in 1876.

According the Times Union, there are 400 breweries throughout the state, including 46 in the Capital Region alone. This breaks the previous record of 393 breweries which was set back in 1876. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement that new licenses meant to encourage industry growth have lead to the rising number of breweries across the state. The state has issued over 200 licenses since the governor's farm brewery law went into effect in 2013.

The Brewers Association reported that craft beer production doubled throughout the U.S. between 2011 and 2016, going from 2,000 breweries in 2011 to over 5,000 in 2016. Craft breweries have also seen an increase in beer tourism across the board.
