Capital Region Property Tax Relief Is On The Way, Here’s When To Expect Your STAR Credits
Property tax relief is on the way for many New York residents! The Department of Taxation and Finance's School Tax Relief program (STAR) offers property tax relief to eligible New York State homeowners and the money is starting to flow.
If you are expecting a STAR credit check or direct deposit from New York State check below to find out when the checks will be issued and direct deposits made in the Capital Region. You can also use the STAR Credit Delivery Schedule lookup.

If you are eligible and enrolled in the STAR program you should expect to receive your benefit in one of two ways. You will either receive a STAR credit in the form of a check or direct deposit. You may also have a STAR exemption with a reduction on your school tax bill. Note: The STAR exemption is no longer available to new homeowners.
You can use your STAR benefit to pay your school taxes. You can receive the STAR credit if you own your home and it's your primary residence and the combined income of the owners and the owners’ spouses is $500,000 or less.
The delivery schedule for the Capital Region will vary. For example, Albany County will be issued from late August through mid-September while Saratoga County's Amsterdam School District will be issued in mid-July.
Check the Delivery Schedule for your county and school district HERE. Choose the county you live in from the drop-down menu, select your school district and select your town or city.
