Admit it - you've looked at those handicapped spots in the parking lot on a hot or cold day with a slight feeling of envy. Let's face it - we'd all love to have one of those spots BUT they do serve a purpose and are there for those who really need them. Of all people you'd think an employee at the NY Department of Health would have a special understanding of that. Nope - not the case.

New York State officials arrested 27 year old Travis Witt from Malta after it came to light that he forged a doctors note in order to obtain a handicapped parking permit for the Empire State Plaza. He apparently admitted to claiming hours worked when in fact he didn't work.

From the press release:

Travis Witt, age 27, of Malta, New York, was arrested this morning by investigators from the New York State Inspector General’s Office and charged with four felony counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree and one misdemeanor count of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Third Degree. He faces up to four years in prison if convicted.

The Inspector General’s investigation determined that in May of 2011, Witt obtained special parking privileges at his work location at Empire State Plaza based on a forged doctor’s note. In addition, Defendant admitted that on three separate occasions in January and February of 2012, he submitted certified time records indicating that he had worked full days when he had not reported to work at all.

If you were wondering where your dose of irony would come from today, now you know.
