New York State Police Arrest 19 People In Retail Theft Sweep

New York State Police conduct a three-day Organized Retail Theft (ORT) enforcement. The result netted 19 arrests on 68 charges, including 31 felony charges and 37 misdemeanor or violation charges. The investigations involved $11,650.60 in reported stolen merchandise, of which $6,396.44 was recovered and returned to the stores.

The ORT enforcement detail was conducted August 6 through August 8, 2026, in Watertown, NY, and Syracuse, NY in Walmart, Price Chopper, Lowe's and Destiny USA to name a few. This is in response to requests for assistance from multiple retail Asset Protection personnel.

New York State Police made arrests including charges for Grand Larceny, Burglary, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Conspiracy, Criminal Possession of an Anti-Security Item, and Falsifying Business Records.

The New York State Police will continue working with retail businesses, Asset Protection personnel, and local law enforcement agencies to investigate retail theft, identify repeat offenders, recover stolen property, and prevent future offenses.
