Starting this summer the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is launching the FREE First-Time Campers Weekend Program which sounds super awesome if you and your family are looking to try your hand at camping but don't yet posses the gear or know how to do so.

According to the NYS DEC website New York State Residents can sign up for the program to stay at a stocked campsite at one of several NYS Parks on select weekends from 7/7/17 to 8/25/17 for FREE and when they say a stocked campsite they mean a stocked campsite...

New campers will be provided with a family tent, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, camp chairs, camp stove, lantern, and even firewood. A Camping Ambassador will meet families at the campsite and help them get camp set up with a camping 101 lesson. To make the weekend getaway even more fun, campers will have an opportunity to learn from experts how to fish, hike, bird watch, paddle and more, all while having fun and making memories that last forever.

What better way to explore the outdoors with the fam than for FREE and with tour gides?!? You will need a reservation to get in on the FREE First-Time Campers Weekends and reservations will be taken on a first come first serve basis beginning on Wednesday, May 17th by calling 518-474-6718.
