Looks like The Palace Theatre will be getting some upgrades here in the near future.

Governor Cuomo is dulling out the cash to the arts in New York State! Recently he announced more than $800 million in allocations to the state’s 10 regional economic development councils and as it turns out some much need renovations at the Palace Theatre in Albany were supported by the Capital Region Regional Economic Development Council and the Palace will receive $2.5 of that $800 million.

The Palace plans to use that cash to "enhance the performing space, stage and backstage support services, construction of a loading dock, and seat renovations." With the goal of broadening their programming, bringing more live performing arts to more people, and expand their reach in the community.

I have heard that a loading dock has been needed at the Palace for sometime and am excited at the prospect of more live acts coming through the Palace. I'm not sure what kind of seat renovations they are planning but actually the Palace is like the one Theatre that has seats I actually like. You know you don't really have to fight for elbow space and people can get in and out of the isle without you having to do the stand up sit down dance and speaking of dancing there's plenty of room to do that too! So as long as those things don't change I can't wait to see what they do with the place!
