Pollution on the Rise in Capital Region
Air quality in the Capital Region continues to worsen, according to report.
The Daily Gazette reports that pollution is on the rise in Albany and Saratoga. A 2018 "State of the Air" report from the American Lung Association shows a report card that measuring air pollution from 2014 through 2016, and the findings are not good. Albany County went from an A to a B and Saratoga County went from a B to a C. Albany and Saratoga Counties are two of 16 counties in New York that have experienced declining air quality, which is based on the average days a county experiences ozone and short-term particle pollution. State Department of Environmental Conservation commissioner Basil Seggos said that the plan by the Environmental Protection Agency to weaken vehicle emission standards will worsen pollution nationwide. Jeff Seyler of the American Lung Association said that unhealthy levels of ozone across the state put residents at risk of premature death, asthma attacks, and other health problems.
