Procters Is Looking At Renovating The Former American Theater In Troy
Procters is in the preliminary stages of considering a total renovation to the former American Theater on River Street in Troy. The building has sat unused for the last 14 years.
According to The Albany Business Review the renovation would include single-screen theater and music venue with about 180 seats.
Troy Mayor Patrick Madden announced the effort during his state of the city speech on Wednesday night. He said none of the money for the renovation would come from the city budget, but they would work on tax incentives to help with the project.
The original theater opened in the 1920 and still has a lot of it's original art deco charm. In the 1970's it was a X -Rated theater showing adult films.
With such a storied history and such a cool venue I really hope the project moves forward.
