We were all absolutely devastated to learn that Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog vocalist Chris Cornell has passed away. In response to this tragic news, some of rock and metal’s biggest musicians took to Twitter and paid their respects to Cornell.

The iconic singer was found dead in the bathroom of his hotel room following Soundgarden's show at the Fox Theatre in Detroit on May 17. A statement from his publicist reads, “His wife Vicky and family were shocked to learn of his sudden and unexpected passing, and they will be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause. They would like to thank his fans for their continuous love and loyalty and ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”

Although it’s still very early in the morning as of press time, a large amount of musicians have already tweeted about Cornell (as seen below). We’ll continue to update this post as more rockers continue to learn about and react to the news.

Rest in peace, Chris. We’ll miss you dearly.
