‘Scary 13′ Begins on Friday the 13th for New York Mets
The New York Mets finally licked their wounds by sweeping the Washington Nationals in three games, right after getting swept out of first place by the Philadelphia Phillies. However, there isn't time to celebrate as the red hot Los Angelas Dodgers come to town to begin a brutal 13 game stretch for the Metropolitans against the top two teams in the National League West.
To make matters worse, Major League baseball turned a 1:10pm Sunday afternoon start into a 7:10pm Sunday Night Baseball game. Following that game, New York has to fly to San Francisco to take on the Giants, who own the best record in all of baseball, currently at 74-41. Just for a reference, the Mets are 59-55. The Giants are great and have been led by a resurgence from Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt.
Following that 3 game series in the city by the bay, the Mets travel to Los Angelas for a tough 4 game series with a couple of their long time rivals. Max Scherzer joins Julio Urias and Walker Buehler as the frontline of the Dodgers pitching staff and their line-up added Trea Turner to Justin Turner and Max Muncey to add more speed to the muscle. The Dodgers are good and have won 7 out of their last 10.
The Mets return home for 3 more tough games with the Giants, August 24-26, before this Friday the 13th Nightmare will really end. Jake deGrom gets an MRI in a few days to determine if his return is anytime soon. Noah Syndergaard is beginning his minor league rehab. He may be added to the bullpen if he returns in September. Javier Baez should be back in the line-up soon but most of all, the player that can carry this team, Francisco Lindor should be back within the next week.
Those are all good signs for the New York Mets. Can they possibly turn this 13 Game Nightmare into a First Place Dream...I doubt it but it will be fun nonetheless.
