It is not exactly an honor, but some Capital Region cities are once again being pointed out for their propensity to hit the bottle.

Is it the cold winters? Is it the stress of paying all those taxes? Or maybe it is just a little too much effort put into being the life of the party? Whatever the cause, come Capital Region cities have been ranked among the nation's 50 drunkest by 24/7 Wall Street. The website bases its rankings on the cities with the highest percentage of drinkers who partake in excessive consumption, which includes both binge and heaving drinking. Here is where some local cities rank on this list:

After reporting last week that the tri-cities were named the drunkest cities in the state of New York, it's another dubious honor as the Capital Region boozing lands our 3 biggest cities at number 41 nationwide. The national average for excessive drinking is 19.2 percent. For Albany-Schenectady-Troy that number rises to 22.7 percent.

#11. Pittsfield, MA

Landing at #11 on the list, Pittsfield, Massachusetts makes the tri-cities look like tea-totalers. The excessive drinking rate rises to 26.7 percent in Pittsfield.

So which city is the booziest in the nation? Appleton, Wisconsin lands at #1 on the list with an excessive drinking rate of over 30 percent. It doesn't make it right, but I would say folks in Wisconsin are definitely tippin' it on back way too much to stay warm.

See Best Beer In New York & Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
