As spring has begun residents are itching to start cleaning up from the winter, but when will they begin to pick up yard waste around the Capital Region?

While we may not have the all clear when it comes to winter weather just yet it hasn't stopped us from wanting to start getting our outdoor spaces back. It's time to reclaim it and clean it up a bit.

Not only did we have a decent amount of snow around Upstate New York this winter, but we had to deal with some gusty winds that have left branches, sticks, and random leaves all over our yards, sidewalks, and streets. This big question everyone currently has is, when can I start this process?

Leaf Pick Up

Every single city and town in the Capital Region has a different policy when it comes to this. In the city of Albany their website stats that yard waste pick up will begin on or around April 15th.

Yard waste pick up will begin in the city of Schenectady on the first working day of April. So that begins a bit sooner than in Albany.

Saratoga Springs yard waste pick up has already begun. Their website states that it runs from March 1 through December. That's the longest period of yard waste clean up in the Capital Region that I have found.

In Troy they seem to have more relaxed guidelines and it states that their leaf pick up pairs with regular garbage pickup times. However for brush and branches you need to schedule a pick up time. They also have fines for people who don't follow the proper guidelines, which you can find here.
