Upstate New York Students Confused Over Vintage School Equipment
Do you recognize this piece of school equipment? If you do you are probably old just like us.
Times really do change and with it changes the technology that each generation is using. When it comes to being in the classroom I remember when they slowly began to change from chalk boards to white boards with dry erase markers.
There were two pieces of equipment that I always loved seeing being rolled into the classroom. One of them was the TV cart. That meant that we were going to watching a video that day and yes it was on VHS. DVDs weren't super available yet when I was in school. The other one that I always liked seeing was the overhead projector. While not as exciting as a movie, there was going to be some fun had when the teacher used that for going over notes and assignments.

It turns out that some kids don't even know what one of these are. The students in Niskayuna here in the Capital Region were put to the test recently and many of them came up empty when trying to figure out what this artifact of the 20st century was.
What is this?
Some of the answers that the students gave were pretty hilarious. Here were some of my favorite responses:
- X-ray machine
- Old printer
- Dentist light
- Copy machine
- Old speaker
It was nice to seen some of the students did know what this was and had even seen it used out in the wild.
I can't think of a piece of technology that I didn't use or at least know of when I was in school that hadn't been used at least 10-20 years before me. However I am old enough to remember when they started to teach us about computers and we actually got some for the classroom. That was a big deal in the 90s.
