There are many laws that are on the books in New York State that involve operating a motor vehicle. The law about hanging things from your rearview mirror seems odd but you could get a ticket if you violate it.

Where many states have exceptions to this law, New York State draws a hard line when it comes to trucks.

I think we all know by now that it is illegal to leave your car running and unattended in New York state. Section 1210 of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law makes it illegal for a driver to leave a vehicle without stopping the engine, locking the ignition, and removing the key from the car. But that doesn't stop a lot of people in the Capital Region from doing just that. Not only could you get a ticket, but it could also be worse.

Fines for a first offense include up to a $150 fine and/or 15 days in jail, plus applicable surcharges.

You can actually get a pretty hefty fine for hanging your mask from your rearview mirror.

So, if you had the option to take a "time-out" instead of an expensive speeding ticket would you take it?
