UPDATE: (2/26):

The hysteria started Thursday afternoon when toy and game company Hasbro announced that Mr. Potato Head will no longer be called Mr. Potato Head. Going forward the artist formerly known as Mr. will now be known simply as Potato Head. This announcement came with the launch of Hasbro's "Create Your Potato Head Family" kit, with two potato parents and a potato baby, made for "modern families."

Listen, I understand the desire for a company to be politically correct and do the right thing for everyone and I am all for inclusion but why not offer all? Mr. Potato Head! Mrs. Potato Head! Potato Head! Collect them all! Today it looks as if they will.

Mr. Potato Head has been in homes around the world since 1952, minding his own business and making kids happy. I mean, he got a little arrogant when he got the part in the movie Toy Story but since then he has been chill.

NBC reported that, Hasbro feels Mr. Potato Head needed a modern makeover. Really? It's a potato! A plastic potato that we have been buying for 70 years!! What's next? Here are some of my guesses:

  • Evel Knievel changes to Nice Knievel
  • Stretch Armstrong changes to Stretch Arm of Mediocre Strength
  • Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots changes to Let's Not Fight Machines
  • Simon changes to Round Thing With Lights to Push If You Want To
  • Monopoly changes to There's Enough to Go Around

"Hasbro is making sure all feel welcome in the Potato Head world by officially dropping the Mr. from the Mr. Potato Head brand name and logo to promote gender equality and inclusion,"

Mr. Potato Head has had it's controversy over the years. Brooklyn-born inventor George Lerner came up with the idea to create a "funny face man". Initially people felt it was irresponsible and wasteful due to the World War II food rationing at the time.

Now that this is settled we can get back to being mad at politicians. Carry on.
