Happy Birthday today (Aug. 8) to Poison drummer Rikki Rockett. He’s 56. Also turning 56 is guitarist U2 guitarist The Edge.

Rikki Rockett and his band Poison had great success in the mid 1980’s through the 1990’s  selling over 50 million records worldwide with 15 million alone sold in the Unites States. The band released their breakthrough, multi-platinum debut album Look What the Cat Dragged in 1986 and hit their peak with the album Open Up and Say… Ahh! in 1988. The album was the band’s most successful release with four hit singles: ‘Nothin’ but a Good Tim’, ‘You’re Mama Don’t Dance’, ‘Fallen Angel’, and ‘Every Rose Has It’s Thorn’. It Peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S. and sold 5 million copies.

Rikki Rockett announced last year that he was cancer free after battling oral cancer. Poison and Def Leppard toured together this summer. Poison played Times Union Center in Albany back in May and they rocked the place! For more on Rikki Rockett, check out his official website here.

U2 lead guitarist and keyboardist The Edge has been a member of U2 since their inception and has recorded 13 albums with the band. His guitar work is a signature sound of the band. The Edge is also known for his campaigning of human rights and philanthropic causes. U2 have sold more than 170 million records worldwide making them one of the world’s best-selling music artists of all time. Rolling Stone magazine ranked U2 number 22 on it’s list of “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” and labelled them “Biggest Band in the World”. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility in 2005.
