Will Ferrell Accepts Chad Smith’s Challenge for a ‘Drum Vs. Cowbell Showdown’ for Charity
Last week actor Will Ferrell was an Internet sensation with his hilarious claim that he was actually Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, something many have debated over for many years due to their uncanny physical similarities. The actor-comedian made his confession during an infamous Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ (AMA) session resulting in Smith offering up his own video in response, challenging Ferrell to a drum battle.
Smith's response included this challenge:
I need you… drum battle, me and you. I've seen your skills. You don't got 'em. Let's go. Golden cowbell, winner – boom!"
His cowbell work is well-documented, but his drumset skills are nominal based on Step Brothers the film... Other than wiping his testicles on the drums, which of course I give high marks to.
If he chooses to accept the drum battle…If I LOSE, I will work free of charge as his stand-in on his next film or wash his car for the duration of filming. But if I WIN, he has to give me free pedicures for a year. Gotta take care of your feet!"
Ferrell recently accepted the challenge and upped the ante a bit, making the most of it by transforming it into a charitable event:
Hi, Chad. Will Ferrell here. I saw your video and I graciously accept your invitation to a drum battle. If we can raise $300,000 for Cancer For College I will face off with you in the greatest drum vs. cowbell showdown the world has ever seen. We can do it on stage at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert or in front of a mutually convenient public library. Your call. Also, would you rather fight a hundred duck sized ducks or one horse sized horse?"
Smith responded swiftly, accepting the offer, setting up would could be one of the best musical showdowns in history, simply saying, “Hey Will, I’ve logged back in JUST to accept your challenge. Bring IT!"
The RHCP drummer even Tweeted a picture of himself playing the cowbell at a recent gig:
So the stage has been set, now the two just need to confirm the date and time for their epic showdown.
Ferrell, along with the help of actor Christoper Walken, revived the love for the cowbell in a 2000 'Saturday Night Live' skit, riffing on the Blue Oyster Cult classic ‘Don’t Fear the Reaper.' The skit resulted in the creation of the catch phrase ‘More Cowbell!’ and became an instant hit.
No word yet on Smith's preference on fighting a hundred duck sized-ducks vs. one horse sized horse but stay tuned as the details continue to emerge in this battle of percussion.
