The arctic blast of cold air that moved through the Capital Region made the first few days of winter extra cool.

It has been an incredibly chilly start to winter here in Upstate New York. The arctic front that cam through dropped our temperatures well below normal. While we will get back to average temperatures by midweek, right now things remain very cold.

Sunday December 22, 2024 was frigid in the Capital Region, with many places waking up to real feel temperatures below zero thanks to the wind-chill. We even saw actual temperatures dip below zero Sunday night all around the area including Albany International Airport. They posted the first below zero temperatures in over a year.

It's hard to believe the last time the airport had below zero temperatures was in early 2023, but that's all according to the National Weather Service.

While we are getting away from the bitter cold, it's still going to be pretty chilly out there. We will also see a bit of snow hit the Capital Region for Christmas Eve, leaving behind that coveted white Christmas that everyone is always dreaming about.

It doesn't look like we will have to do too much shoveling before unwrapping presents. So that is always a good thing. Just be sure to make sure you check on the elderly to make sure they're warm enough through the holidays and also don't leave your pets outside.
