The Coldest and Warmest Temperatures in New York This Winter
As cold air from Canada blasts us let's take a look at the places around New York that are the coldest during the winter.
It's almost like we snapped our fingers and it went from fall to winter overnight here in the Capital Region. Remember when it used to be a little bit more gradual? Those days seem to be over. Summer never seems to end and then suddenly it's freezing and we barely get to experience fall. Personally I feel ripped off.
While it is pretty cold here in the Capital Region, at least we aren't getting that lake effect snow like they got out in Western and parts of Central New York. The cold is something I can deal with and this week is frigid thanks to Canada.

While this is certainly not the coldest we have ever felt here in Upstate new York it can get pretty cold in some parts throughout the winter months. So where can you find the coldest temperature in New York State?
The Adirondacks
According to this, The Adirondacks are the coldest part of New York for three months straight with daytime temperatures ranging from 17 degrees to 23 degrees. Nighttime temperatures are a whole other animal with the range being -2 degrees to -4 degrees. Those are some temperatures I would not want for a span of three months.
The warmest area in New York State is no shock. It would be a larger area that spans the Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island. The temperatures there are usually between 37 and 43 degrees and you can thank the ocean for keeping things that warm for them.
What about the Capital Region? According to US Climate Date, we're usually between 30 and 40 degrees from December through March. Obviously these can fluctuate a bit. Needless to say it will be cold, so bundle up and be prepared.
