Albany’s State Street Gets New Name To Honor Local Business

Jack's Oyster House has been one of the longest running businesses in Albany, even the country. In fact, they are celebrating their 100th anniversary today (Oct.17) with the official renaming of State Street.Jack's Oyster House Way.

Mayor Jennings will host the festivities today that will not only include the renaming of the street but also the 92nd birthday of Arnold Rosenstein - Jack's second generation owner.

Fun fact: Jack's is actually the second oldest family-owned restaurant in the country. The business opened its doors at their original location on Beaver street on January 24, 1913 before moving to it's current location in 1937.

Speaking about Jack's in a statement, Mayor Jennings had this to say:

Jack's has served guests from literally all over the world, 365 days a year, keeping our Capital city vibrant, alive and always open for business.

Renaming State Street to Jack’s Oyster House Way symbolizes the impact the restaurant has had on downtown Albany since it opened in 1913. As we continue to pay tribute to Jack’s 100th anniversary this year, this ceremony will create permanent recognition of the restaurant’s role on State Street in the past, present and in the years to come.

The unveiling will take place around 11 a.m.
