Amtrak Service Currently Suspended Between New York and Philadelphia
Commuters and holiday travelers had their plans disrupted early Sunday morning in New York due to downed wires.
Amtrak had to temporarily suspend service this morning between New York and Philadelphia leaving some travelers waiting hours for repair crews to fix an issue causing the delay.
With more holiday travelers expected this year than ever before the last thing that anyone needs to a very costly delay. Unfortunately that is exactly what happened between New York's Penn Station and and Philly today. Downed overhead wires were the cause for the delay on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
Amtrak issued the following statement to try and make things right with folks affected by this:
Customers with reservations on affected trains will typically be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or another day. Amtrak will waive additional charges for customers looking to change their reservation during the modified schedule by calling our reservation center at 1-800-USA-RAIL.
Earlier it was expected that the delay would only be until 10am but that is now pushed to noon eastern making things a little more difficult for travelers along the east coast.
ABC 7 reports that repair crews are currently on the scene and working as quickly as possible to restore service.
Residents from the Capital Region use Amtrak from both Rensselear and Schenectady to get to New York City and other east coast cities. As of right now there are several trains leaving from Albany-Rensselear that are delayed getting to their final destinations. Click here to check the status of your train.
