As NBA Investigates, Fans Mock New York Knicks Front Office
The signing of former Dallas Maverick's guard, Jalen Brunson for 4 years at a total of $104 million, should be an acquisition that New York Knicks fans are happy about. However, the bumbling franchise always seems to make easy things much harder. Now the NBA is investigating the the Knicks' front office handling of the free agent signing and fans are taking the opportunity to mock the franchise.
Chris Haynes of yahoosports.com reported on Monday that the NBA is investigating New York's handling of the Brunson signing. Brunson's dad, Rick, was hired as an an assistant coach with the Knicks on June 2nd. Leon Rose, the Knicks' general manager, negotiated Brunson's rookie contract with the Mavericks, when he was an agent. Rick Brunson was Rose's first client as an agent. So, there is a lot of family history.
However, given the futility of the franchise, this is just another circus moment for James Dolan's team. If you listened to New York Knicks fans, the team should be investigated. They took every opportunity to knock their perceivably inept team.
As patience for the latest front office assembled by Knicks owner James Dolan wears thin amongst fans, the NBA will look into whether or not New York's front office went beyond the very flexible communication rules prior to free agency. Let's be realistic, it is almost impossible for there not to be some type of communication between the parties given the family/agent connections. However, I am sure that Maverick's owner Mark Cuban is not happy that he didn't get an opportunity to keep his talented point guard. Therefore he is pressing NBA commissioner Adam Silver to do something. I expect that the NBA will hit the Knicks with a fine and everyone will move on.
