A Clifton Park neighborhood had 1 confirmed sighting and another potential incident involving a black bear yesterday.

While not completely unheard of, it still is rare: A black bear sighting in the more developed areas of the Capital Region. Two such incidents were reported yesterday on Nextdoor.com and the Next Door App.

Both occurred in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood, right off Route 146A. A Berkshire Drive resident spotted what they described as a 200 pound black bear in their yard in the early morning. The other incident was not a confirmed sighting, but an incident one would assume was a bear: a Marlboro Drive resident reported 'loud noises from their deck;' 'when they investigated their bird feeder had been stolen and it's holder 'ripped off their deck' according to the Next Door post.

So be on the lookout - there are bears among us! I live not too far from where this occurred, so we have been playing it extra safe keeping our garbage in our garage. Leaving food around is probably one of the worst things you can do with bears about! For tips on what to do if you encounter a bear, you can visit the National Park Service website.
