11:57am Update: Video coming in from NewsChannel 13 at the site of the crash. It's being reported that as many as six cars were involved.

10:59am Update: Troopers confirm two people have died as a result of the accident

10:31am Update: Stephanie Rivas from News 10 tweeted a photo from the scene which shows multiple vehicles involved, including an Amazon truck on fire

10:25am Update: Crews are working on rerouting traffic, they're saying the road will be closed for an undetermined amount of time

9:52am Update: The Thruway Authority now says drivers should prepare for delays or plan alternate routes through this afternoon

9:36am Update: Police describe the accident as 'severe with multiple injuries'. One of the vehicles involved is reported to be a delivery truck.

A vehicle fire has all lanes of the New York State Thruway (I-90) eastbound shut down  between Exits 25 and 24.

Police say an accident and vehicle fire are what's causing the delays. Backups are reported to be miles long.

35 Years Ago Tragedy on the New York State Thruway

April 5, 1987 the bridge carrying the Thruway over the Schoharie Creek collapsed in Montgomery County. Ten people were killed after immense rain caused the foundation of the bridge to buckle.
