Golf can be a very "green" sport visually, the lush fairways, the tree lined greens and yes, the destination of the sport, the green! Those factors are all the more reason to play golf in the Capital Region in the fall. Over the next 6 weeks, people from all over the country will make this area a destination for "leaf peeping" and apple picking. Local golfers know, there is no better time of year to keep those clubs ready for beautiful conditions and spectacular views.

Even though we are saying "goodbye" summer and "hello" to autumn on Wednesday, that doesn't mean golf season is coming to an end, far from it. Serious golfers in the Capital Region begin to put the "sticks" away around Thanksgiving or later. The views aren't the only reason why golfers love the fall. Another reason being less crowds. Many casual golfers play their rounds between Memorial Day and Labor Day. It's like that white pants thing.

Some golfers like to do double duty, so they play courses like Orchard Creek in Altamont, NY. You may have surmised, it was built on an apple orchard. This time of year, if you get hungry, you can just walk over to one of the trees and pick an apple for a quick snack. Now, since my shots often go in the trees, it is an easy way for me to keep eating throughout the afternoon. Orchard Creek is open to the public and a really cool course to play.

Other autumn boasted courses in the region include Saratoga Lake Golf Club. The SLGC offers some sensational tree lined holes that explode with color in October and you can stop into the Hideaway before or after to have something to eat. The deck overlooks the course and has fantastic food to go along with magnificent views. The Hideaway also has a million TV's for watching Yankee playoff action, we hope, and NFL football.

So, don't put the clubs away just yet. Some of the best golf views have yet to come. Good luck and enjoy!
