Will New Yorkers Turn the Clocks Back This Fall? Here’s the Latest
Many Americans are hoping we don't have to "spring forward' each March and 'fall back' each November. The goal of those in support of a permanent daylight saving time (DST) is to enjoy more daylight all-year-round.
As the dates on the calendar continue to turn many are wondering where we stand with DST), will New Yorkers turn the clocks back one hour this fall? It appears the sun is starting to set regarding daylight saving time (DST) becoming permanent in 2026. Here's what we know.

The 2026 DST period started on March 8th and is scheduled to end on November 1, 2026. Many American are pushing for more daylight, while others argue to keep the old turning of the clocks back and forth in place.
The United States House passed the Sunshine Protection Act to make daylight saving time permanent, but the bill still requires Senate approval and the president's signature before it can become law.
The United States House passed the act earlier this year and is now in the hands of the United States Senate. The problem is that time is running out with only 14 remaining session days between now and October 2nd.
If the Sunshine Protection Act does not become law, we will be turning our clocks back 1 hour on Sunday November 1, 2026. This would mark the time of sunset as 4:47pm. Today, for example, sunset will be at 6:54pm.
