Does Albany New York’s See Click Fix Program Actually Work?
In theory this program should help the City of Albany easily find and fix their problems, but does it work the way it is intended to?
Living in Upstate New York has its fair share of problems no matter where you reside. While it's easy to sit and complain about something, wouldn't it be more helpful if those complaints could actually help make things better? The See Click Fix program is designed for just that.
According to the official See Click Fix website Albany has resolved over 100,000 issues that have been reported to them via this system. Going by that, I would say that it does work, but if you head over to Reddit, you'll find that a majority of the time it doesn't work as well as they would have you think it does.
With See Click Fix it is supposed to be an easy way to report potholes and other issues with roads, sidewalks, buildings, you name it. I have seen numerous orders come through this winter after signing up for the app that my neighbors constantly complain about the icy conditions, or unplowed roadways.
The only thing I've ever reported to See Click Fix was when they didn't plow my road after not one but two snow storms. It got to be so bad that people couldn't drive up the small hill. Not to mention the layer of ice that had developed. Luckily after a call to DGS, they did come and take care of it, but the city needs to do better.
The response I got after asking them to come and plow a road was that the city doesn't handle sidewalks. It seemed like an automated response, especially since my post included a photo of the road.
Does the program work? Maybe. Could they be better at getting to these requests in a quicker manner? Yes. Without a doubt.
