FedEx announced this week that it would be closing several New York shipping locations as part of its restructuring deal.

Another day and another company announces that it will be downsizing. It seems to be the trend for 2026 and quite frankly I think most of us are a little tired of these companies putting themselves and the bottom line over the people that have been working hard for them day in and day out. FedEx announced that it plans to close almost 500 facilities by 2027. It's apparently part of their plan to "streamline" things that was laid out in 2022.

Syracuse.com reports that employees at the Upstate New York facilities will be offered the chance to relocate with new jobs for the company. They'll also be offered a severance packages if they aren't able to relocate to another facility.

FedEx said in the following statement:

These decisions are never taken lightly and reflect our commitment to supporting affected employees – through job placement assistance, relocation aid, or severance, as applicable – while transforming our network and continuing to provide an outstanding experience for our customers

As of right now we're not totally sure how many total jobs will be affected by these closures. All we know is that a whole lot of people will be losing their livelihoods.

When is enough enough? When will companies start caring about the people they employee. Things are insanely expensive right now. People are barely getting by and the stress of not having a job, or potentially not having a job shouldn't have to be on anyone's plate right now.
