Since October 25, I have not picked up or put a razor near my chin area as I grow a beard for No Shave November.

If you haven't been caught up yet on the charity I picked or the reason I am taking part, please continue reading.

I am raising $500 for the Colon Cancer Alliance. The group utilizes funds raised for research, patient support, and awareness campaigns for something that goes rather under the radar for many people.

Colon Cancer claims many lives every year because it's not something regularly talked about between patients and their doctors. My father had colon cancer several years ago and thankfully, because of a routine check-up, the small polyp that could have become a much larger problem down the line.

You are never too young to get colon cancer either. Though statically, people over the age of 50 are more prone, but there is no real age discrimination from the cancer.

More on colon cancer from the CCA:

Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women combined in the US. The American Cancer Society estimates that 142,820 people will be diagnosed in 2013 and that 50,830 will die from colon cancer in the United States.

On average, the lifetime risk of developing colon cancer is about one in 20 (5%), however, this varies widely according to individual risk factors.

I ask that if you can, please donate and help me raise the $500 that will go to help with awareness campaigns and patient support. My family got through this by being together but not everyone is lucky enough to have that support team, that's where the CCA comes in to play.

Too many people have gone diagnosed too long because they didn't think about the possibility and lost their life as a result. Help if you can and "Thank You" for reading this.
