Happy Birthday today (March 10) bassist Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam. He's 54. Other rockers celebrating include former Puddle of Mudd bassist Doug Ardito (46) and Boston founder/guitarist Tom Scholz (70).

Jeff Ament is known for his work fretless bass, upright bass, and twelve-string bass guitar. His influences include classic rock bands like The Who, The Beatles, Aerosmith, and Kiss along with punk bands like Sex Pistols, Ramones, and The Clash. Pearl Jam formed out of Seattle in 1990. The band’s original lineup featured Jeff Ament on bass along with Eddie Vedder on vocals, guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, and drummer Dave Krusen. Pearl jam is one of the most successful rock band’s of the 90’s with an estimated 60 million records sold worldwide. The band’s debut album Ten was a huge success going 13 times platinum with hits “Alive”, “Even Flow”, and “Jeremy. The album remains Pearl Jam’s most commercially successful release. Great memories in the early 90’s as a kid in junior high when Ten was released, when everyone started wearing combat boots and flannel shirts. I’ve never seen Pearl Jam live but they are on my bucket list.

Pearl Jam toured in 2016 to commemorate the band’s 25th anniversary which included a headlining slot at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The band will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 8 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
