Food, for many, is a language of love. Signature dishes to certain geographic areas are something we all long for, but unfortunately don't often get to have. When it comes to garbage plates Rochester has them locked down - but why? Why can't we all share in this wonderful feast? Now we can.

Robb's Topp Doggs in the Via Port Mall in Rotterdam is making up garbage plates daily. They're open Tuesday through Saturday 11am-7pm so it gives you 5 days to get yourself there to grab a plate of your own.

Just take one look at these pictures and tell me that you're not hungry.

What is a garbage plate?

For those of you not in the know, a garbage plate originated in Rochester, New York all the way back in 1918. According to Wikipedia, Nick Tahou Hots actually owns the copyright to the name and dish. Other places in Rochester can serve their own version, but can't call it a garbage plate. So a lot of the time if you see it on the menu it will be called either just a "plate" or a "trash plate."

It's basically everything you would get at a backyard BBQ piled together. Traditionally served with a burger patty on the top, it can also have a hot dog on the top, which I prefer. The lowe levels consist of either French fries or home fries, mac salad or baked beans, onions, meat sauce, and then whatever condiment you want on it.

I've visited Rochester and had a garbage plate there and I am absolutely thrilled that I don't have to go all the way there for one and can find one right here in the Capital Region.
