Gas Prices On The Rise In Capital Region

If you've filled up at the pump any time within the last few weeks, you may have noticed the steady increase in gas prices. Sadly, it doesn't look like it's going to stop there.

According to News10, a higher demand for gasoline in oil overseas has raised the prices here in the U.S. That and the fact stations are switching out from 'winter' to 'summer' gasoline.

Maria D’Amelia of Stewart’s Shops explains to News10:

It’s something that’s required by the government this time of year. It is a cleaner burning fuel during the summer months that eases pollution, but it’s also more expensive.

This transition should have been completed by the first of this month. Does that mean we'll see gas prices level off? Probably not. The national average has risen steadily over the last three months with a six cent increase just last week.

To sum it up, this is the usual increase we have come to know and expect during this time of the year. It will be interesting to see what prices are on and after Memorial Day weekend as most people begin their summer travels.
