‘The Gilded Age’ S2 Will Bring Which NYC Landmark to Troy?
Opened May 24, 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge is an iconic New York structure that you might catch a glimpse of in Troy soon (but looking newer than you remember).
Location scouts for HBO’s The Gilded Age have recently been perched atop the Hart Cluett Museum on 2nd Street in downtown Troy, looking for the perfect spot to replicate the opening of the first bridge across the East River into Manhattan. This should be a key event in the show’s second season, which was announced in February.
HBO filmed many outdoor scenes for its nine-episode first season in Troy, which has preserved much of its original 1800s architecture. The Hart Cluett Museum, which itself was used as a season one filming location, has been key in assisting show creator and writer Julian Fellowes and his team during production.
Interest in New York’s Gilded Age has only grown with the program’s success, even lending its style to this year’s Met Gala theme. This curiosity has led to increased requests for tours and talks about the show and the real-life stories behind the beautiful buildings. Rensselaer County and Troy City Historian Kathy Sheehan is giving a lecture at the Hart Cluett Museum on Thursday, May 19 with guided walking tours of locations seen on screen in high demand. All tours but one are currently sold out, with more to be added over the spring and summer to meet demand.
The Brooklyn Bridge wouldn’t be the first NYC icon The Gilded Age has replicated, at least in part, in Troy. Last summer, the Statue of Liberty’s torch had a stand-in in Washington Park, which in turn was playing Manhattan’s Madison Square Park.
No filming or premiere dates for The Gilded Age season two have been released at this time.
