New York Man Arrested Following An Online Scheme To Steal From Hannaford Customers
A New York man is accused of stealing from Hannaford Supermarkets but not in the way you might expect. This suspect allegedly accessed customers accounts to steal items from the grocery chain.
We have all heard of shoppers trying to cheat the system at self checkout kiosks and you might have seen incidents where individuals simply walk out the front door of the store with a cart full of unpaid goods. This case is unique in that the suspect didn't even have to enter the store to attempt to steal.

On Tuesday October 14th, according to a press release, New York State Police revealed a months-long investigation that started when Troopers were informed that fraudulent purchases were being made through the Hannaford To Go online ordering system.
Allegedly the suspect was accessing out-of-state customers’ Hannaford To Go accounts and linked credit card information to place fraudulent orders for in-store pickup at the Watertown, NY location.
These orders were then retrieved by individuals posing as legitimate customers. Multiple incidents of this nature were reported by Hannaford staff, prompting an internal review and law enforcement involvement.
New York State Police arrested 25-year-old Khalid M. Baylor of Watertown, NY. Baylor was identified as one of the individuals responsible for picking up several of these fraudulent orders with a total value of the stolen merchandise made in this case $1,468.30.
The investigation is ongoing. Baylor was charged with the following offenses:
- Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree
- Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree
