The Capital Region has no shortage of places to go when it comes to burgers. It seems like the only two types of places that open up these days are burgers or chicken or a combination of the both. While it can be frustrating to get more of the same, the places that are opening are putting their own unique spin on these items. One of those places happens to be Holy Burger.

Holy Burger, based out of New York City, opened their first location here in the Capital Region last week. This was a highly anticipated opening and there was a ton of hype surrounding this style of food. Being from NYC, their menu is mix of what you'd find at a great burger place along with some favorites you may find at a bodega in the city. I was really excited to check out their food and see if all the hype was worth it.

Trying Holy Burger

My first attempt came on Friday evening. I went over to their location at 1012 Central Ave in Albany to find that I wasn't the only one with this idea. The place was super busy both inside and at their drive thru. The staff was very busy and seemed a bit overwhelmed and the customers inside were not happy with the food they were being served. I decided I would leave and come back the next day to give it a fair shot.

On Saturday afternoon I drove over to try out one of their burgers. This time I was the only customer inside, but the drive thru was consistent. I ordered the holy burger, which I assume is their claim to fame. The woman behind the counter suggested i try their seasoned fries on the side, so I did that too.

The food over all was pretty good. I thought the burger had great flavor and I liked the hearty bun that it came on. Their "holy sauce" wasn't bad either. It tastes like your standard burger sauce that light pink, but this one had a little more spice to it which I thought was nice. Pickles were an add on, which was odd because pickles should always come on a burger. The fries were seasoned well and crispy which I liked, but weren't hot. That was a little disappointing.

As far as the rest of the menu goes, it has a lot of options. Chopped cheese, deli sandwiches, wraps, and chicken tenders as well. I liked this place enough the want to go back and try more of their food. I also know they just opened so you have to give them a chance to work out all the kinks. Don't judge them too harshly. Also, support them! We need businesses to be in Albany and stay here. That won't happen unless we actually go in and support them.
