The Knicks get a bit win in Miami, but you can’t help but wonder if Carmelo Anthony could have already won a championship if he played defense like he did last night.

Carmelo has always been criticized for his lack of defensive effort, but you can’t say anything bad about him last night. With the Knicks down 66-65 in the 4th quarter it was Anthony that wanted the challenge of guarding Lebron. James did score 10 points in the 4th, but we all know that he could easily go off for a lot more than that and take over any game. But Carmelo didn’t want that to happen! And it appears that he inspired all of his teammates to play harder on the defensive end as NY won a very low scoring affair 91-86.

Carmelo may have been a bit complaisant in Denver, but I think this move is, and will be rejuvenating for him. Although I’m not a Knick fan, I’m glad they picked him up as the NBA is definitely more fun when then Knicks have a good team. Even just the other night I noticed people sitting at the bar and watching NY lose to the lowly Cavs, but 10-1 says without Melo those guys wouldn’t have been watching the game at all. I do find it strange that Anthony gets all the attention though, as I find Chauncy Billups to be just as big of an acquisition.

NY has the night off but will look to knock off another big name as they take on the Magic in Orlando tomorrow night.
