In the past, it seemed as if we would get a cold and snowy Capital Region winter. However, lately, the winter months seem more mild than usual. The winter of 2024 is trending to be one of the warmest on record.

Although this looks like an EKG, you can see that winter weather in Albany, NY has had its extremes. It does appear that our winters are trending warmer.

These temperatures listed above don't seem to be very warm but when you take into consideration that these are average winter temperatures, it's a bit concerning. Also, last year (2023) came in as the third warmest winter on record.

Another Upstate New York winter is upon us. And while it is popular for forecasters to predict a cold and snowy winter ahead, how much snow would it actually take to make it an all-time winter when it comes to big a big snowfall total for the season? In the average winter, the National Weather Service (NWS_ says we get 59.2 inches of snow in Albany. We will have to crush that number this winter for the season ahead to make this NWS top 10 list of our snowiest Albany winters on record.
