It's been a little over a month since the NHL season kicked off. The best hockey players from around the world have gathered together to see who's left standing on top at the end of the season.

As exciting and exhilarating as professional hockey can be, Upstate New York is preparing for a showdown unlike any other on the rink.

Saratoga Springs Charity Hockey Game

On Saturday, November 15th, Saratoga Springs will become the hockey capital of Upstate New York as they host their annual Charity Hockey game. The game will be played between members of the Saratoga Springs Police and Fire Department, answering the age-old question of which service agency is better.

The match will take place at Weibel Ice Rink at 30 Weibel Avenue, Saratoga Springs. The action will start at 7:00 p.m. sharp with the puck drop. Hockey won't be the only thing on the schedule, however. Raffles, games, and more fun will be filling the arena all night long.

For a Good Cause

Admission to this event is not paid with cash or card. Rather, you will gain your entrance through the donation of a new and unwrapped toy. These toys are going to the benefit of the Franklin Community Center's Holiday Assistance Program, which helps lower income families put together the perfect holiday.

If you would like to donate, but can't make it to the game, no worries! The graphic above features the locations that you can drop off new and unused toys from now until Friday, November 14th.

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Rolls Through The Capital Region For a Great Cause

It had been three years since the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train rolled through the Capital Region. It made three stops; Mechanicville, Saratoga Springs, and Fort Edward. The first was Mechanicville on a rainy Sunday night. This is where I enjoyed the festive holiday train. They are traveling across the country to 106 stops. At each stop, they play live music and collect donations for the local food banks. Country Artist Lindsay Ell was the musical entertainment and she was awesome. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train also presented the Mechanicville Community Center with a check for $3500 to help restock the food bank. Even though the weather wasn't ideal, a couple of hundred families joined the fun.
