After a mild start to the season in December, we have seen a good run of cold weather and a run of storms to kick off 2024. That run continues this week as winter storm Heather heads towards the North East.

National Weather Service Issues Winter Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Capital Region and surrounding areas that expires at 7 pm today, according to News Channel 13. 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected to fall today impacting both the morning and evening commutes, with the heaviest snowfall late this morning into the afternoon.

As far as other areas of New York, the Weather Channel says New York City and the Hudson Valley will also see 1 to 3 inches, while the Buffalo and New York Cities could also see 1 to 3.

In the average winter, the National Weather Service (NWS_ says we get 59.2 inches of snow in Albany. We will have to crush that number this winter for the season ahead to make this NWS top 10 list of our snowiest Albany winters on record.
