It has been three days since tragedy struck Aurora, Colorado as 12 were killed and over 50 more were injured when 24-year-old James Holmes opened fire at a midnight viewing of The Dark Knight Rises. Today he faced his first court appearance and a video clip can be seen below.

Holmes looks rather dazed and completely out of it and now has orange hair. He closes his eyes a lot in the short video and has a blank look on his face. If only we knew what he was thinking in those very moments, or at all for that matter. He's a brilliant person whose young life is now over, as he faces first degree murder charges.

The Arapahoe County Justice Center was home to the short hearing known as an advisement. Holmes's public defender sat right next to him- I give her a lot of credit because it must be hard to defend a guilty person who has committed such a huge and tragic crime. Formal charges will be given to Holmes on Monday, July 30 and the death penalty is even being considered. He is forbidden by law to have any contact with survivors or witnesses, obviously.

Holmes refuses to answer any questions about the shooting thus far. Let's just hope justice is served for all of the victims and their families.

Should Holmes get the death penalty or be left to rot in jail for the rest of his life?
