This past weekend, the multi-genre singer Kid Rockdonated $100,000 to a number of credible organizations. He gathered five $10,000 grants and scattered them throughout organizations in Detroit, which is where Kid Rock, or Bob Ritchie hails from. He also donated $50,000 to the American Red Crossto help tornado victims in the south. He doesn't seem like one to be a big donator, but his money will greatly help those affected.

His donations weren't completely selfless, though. With the donations came the Great Expectations Award from the Detroit branch of the NAACP during their 56th Annual Fight for Freedom Fund dinner. Did he know he was going to receive an award and in turn that's why he donated? I hope not. I hope he did it strictly out of the goodness of his heart and not because he expected glory because of it.

A number of people aren't too happy about his award either, according to Noisecreep:

Despite his generosity, detractors were somewhat displeased with the fact that the singer was being honored by the NAACP since he has often utilized a Confederate flag as a prominent prop during his live shows and in his videos. Billboard reported that during his acceptance speech, the singer pointed out that the flag pays homage to Lynyrd Skynyrd and that he doesn't use the symbol with any sort of hate in his heart, and that his donations were aimed at turning the negative in the positive.
