Swimming at Lake George beaches has resumed. At least for the time being...

Last week both Million Dollar Beach and Dog Beach on Lake George had to be closed for an extended period of time due to "high levels of fecal coliform" or quite literally, bird poop, which had the potential to make swimmers significantly ill.

The Department of Environmental Control has been testing the water regularly and reopened the beaches according to the TU after testing revealed

Decreased levels of coliform bacteria and E. coli below the state Department of Health sanitary threshold.

Apparently there have been an unusually large amount of birds that have been hanging out in the lake recently and as you know birds poop when they have to poop and they were pooping in the water. A lot. Which was making it unsafe for people to swim in. So in order to detour the birds from the lake the installed a sound system to "to disperse flocks of defecating birds".

I don't mean to laugh right now but it's kind of funny when you actually sit here and write it all out like that. I'm not sure how long this sound system tactic is going to be effective but get your swimming in while you can! It would also probably be a good idea to call ahead and make sure the beaches are still open before you head that way for Labor Day weekend fun.

I think I'm going to try to make a friend with a pool.
