March Enters The Capital Region Like A Lion

We have all heard the seasonal proverb, "In like a lion out like a lamb". In 2021 March certainly looks to be coming in like a lion.

Accuweather.com is reporting a wind advisory for the Capital Region starting Monday afternoon at 1 pm and winding down Tuesday morning at 7 am. Winds between 20-30 mph out of the Northwest and gusts up to 55 mph are expected.

So what does this mean for you and me? The biggest concern probably is the potential loss of power. I hate it when the power goes out and based on this advisory, tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages could result. The gusty winds could also blow stuff around your yard but that's no big deal. It would be nice to see the neighbors while asking for my porch mat back.

According to NBC13 WNTY, in addition to the Catskills, southern Vermont, western Massachusetts, and northwest Connecticut, portions of these areas could be affected:

Albany
Rensselaer
Schenectady
Montgomery
Fulton
Schoharie
Herkimer
Saratoga
Greene
Ulster

So, it is going to be windy and along with that, the temperatures will be dropping quickly on Monday afternoon to possibly below freezing by sunset. Be aware that any standing water will freeze causing icy spots on the roads. It seems dumb to have to say "use extra caution when driving", I know you know that. It's the other guy that doesn't.

This advisory doesn't appear to be a big threat to the Capital Region but the thought of losing power reminds me of when my son was little and anytime something like this would come along he loved to make sure we were prepared. He and I would check the flashlights, secure the windows and make sure we were ready for anything. I miss those days with him but I don't miss the power outages.
