What does the Super Bowl make you think of-- football, good food, friends and family? Well, what about puppies? Since its debut in 2005, the Puppy Bowl has warmed the hearts of many American spectators. This February 12th, Animal Planet will host their 19th annual Puppy Bowl event as players from Teams Ruff and Fluff go head to head... and tail to tail.

According to Discovery, this three hour event will be televised on Animal Planet and can be streamed on Discovery+ at 2:00pm EST. The game will see a record breaking number of pups: 122 players from 67 different shelters and rescues. The event is designed to show how important the work is that these shelters and rescue centers do, in addition to giving shelter pups publicity to potentially find their "furever" homes. The winner will be awarded the esteemed Wayfair Lombarky Trophy, but could someone from "Pupstate" NY take the gold this year? Let's meet the contenders:

Buddy's Second Chance Rescue: Meet Josh Allenhound and Darcy

A post shared by Buddy's Second Chance Rescue (@bu

Just outside of Buffalo, Buddy's Second Chance Rescue in Amherst announced last month that two of their pups, both rescued from kill shelters in Georgia, are in this year's Puppy Bowl. First up, playing for Team Fluff is Josh Allenhound, a golden retriever mix who's just over 6 months old (newyorkupstate.com). Already a fan favorite, he has made it into the Pupularity Playoffs! You can vote for your favorites here.

As you can see, Josh Allenhound enjoys paddling in the water bowl. He's making sure his competition knows not to mess with him!

As for Buddy's Rescue's second Puppy Bowl player, Darcy, no embeddable picture was found. However, if you wish to stare into her beautiful heterochromatic eyes, you can do so here. This shorthaired sweetheart will be playing for the opposing team, Team Ruff (newyorkupstate.com).

Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) Beacon: Meet Bea

Bea is one of eleven special needs pups that will be competing in the game. This deaf pup came to ARF in Beacon, NY with her sister, and the sibling duo gave each other the support they needed to flourish socially (people.com). She will be playing for Team Ruff.
