Bands who typically appear on any show with Stephen Colbert receive what is known as the "Colbert Bump" — a sudden spike in popularity after the program airs. Metallica, of course, have no trouble in this department as the one of the biggest and most successful bands in the world. Already a household name, they'll be invading living rooms with a performance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

"We’re psyched to be back on the East Coast kicking off the North American leg of the 'WorldWired' tour and what better way to spend a day off than making a visit to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert? We’ll be hitting the stage at the iconic Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City on Monday, May 15 and we hope you’ll stay up late and tune in," the band exclaimed in a post on their website.

The episode is set to air at 11:35PM ET on CBS as Metallica joins an ever-growing list of rock and metal acts who have been featured on Colbert's talk show. In recent years, Green Day, Ghost, Babymetal and even Dave Grohl's mom have all made their way onto the set.

As Metallica mentioned, the appearance will coincide with the Northeastern portion of their 'WorldWired' tour in support of one of last year's best metal albumsHardwired... To Self-Destruct. A list of all North American stops can be found at our 2017 Guide to Rock + Metal Tours.
