Happy Birthday today (Aug. 28) to Dave Hlubek. The lead guitarist and founding member of Molly Hatchet is 66. Also celebrating is frontman Steve Whiteman of 80’s rock band Kix (61).

Dave Hlubek founded Molly Hatchet with Steve Holland. Hlubek was the original singer when the band started, and Danny Joe Brown was brought in to handle lead vocals. He was also became the band’s main songwriter, writing and co-writing most of the group’s songs including their biggest hit ‘Flirting With Disaster’. After the band signed to Epic Records, singer Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd was slated to produce the band’s first album, but was unable to due to his tragic death the plane crash of 1977.

As of 2017, Molly Hatchet continues to tour regularly and the current band lineup is the longest running lineup in it's 43 year history. A new album is expected this year. Cheers to Dave Hlubek, a rockin guitarist on his birthday today!
