Monday, October 23: Tig’s Rock Birthdays
Happy Birthday today (Oct. 23) to Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo. He’s 53.
Robert Trujillo is the current bassist for Metallica. He joined the band in 2003 as a permanent replacement for Jason Newsted. Trujillo also played in trash metal band Suicidal Tendencies and funk metal band Infectious Grooves, along with Black Label Society, Jerry Cantrel of Alice In Chains, and Ozzy.
Metallica’s Death Magnetic album was released in 2008 and it would be the first Metallica album to feature Robert Trujillo on bass. The album was Metallica’s fifth consecutive album to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, making them the first band ever to do so. Trujillo and Metallica were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. Jason Newsted (who had left the band in 2001) performed with the band at the ceremony. Trujillo agreed not to play at the ceremony, although he did appear on stage with Newsted during the band’s set for performances of “Master of Puppets” and “Enter Sandman”. Metallica released their tenth studio album, Hardwired… to Self-Destruct last year. Cheers to Robert Trujillo on his birthday today!
